Essential Oil of the Month: Lavender

One of the most popular essential oils on the market is the sweet and floral lavender. Everyone recognizes lavender as a calming, sleep inducing scent, but these tiny purple flowers provide so much more!

Lavender has a delicate and sweet scent that can vary greatly depending on variety, location grown, and time of harvest. The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers and buds and smells very similar to the fresh plant.

Uses for Lavender Essential Oil:

1. Calming

Lavender is best know for it's calming and anti-anxiety effects. Diffusing lavender in your home or office can reduce stress and boost your mood.

2. Sleep Inducing

The oil carries a sedative effect helping induce sleep and improving sleep quality. A warm bath with epsom salts and a few drops of lavender will help prepare your mind and body for a restful nights sleep.

3. Pain Relieving

Lavender is one of the few oils that can be safe to use undiluted on your skin. Use one or two drops on painful insect bites, mild burns, or blisters for immediate pain relief. Lavender is also great at relieving head ache pain by inhaling or rubbing on the back of your neck and temples.

4. Skin Care

Because of its antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, lavender essential oil is great for skin care. It can help prevent breakouts, reduce redness, and help prevent wrinkles.

So if you have just one essential oil in your collection, lavender should be it! For the holidays we have created a 'Keep Calm' gift basket featuring lavender. Perfect as a gift or as a treat for your self - find it here!
